R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Katasia Jordan, a participant in the Texas |
|
Legislative Internship Program (TLIP), has rendered outstanding |
|
service in the office of State Representative Helen Giddings during |
|
the 82nd Legislative Session; and |
|
WHEREAS, Established in 1990 and administered by the Mickey |
|
Leland Center on World Hunger and Peace at Texas Southern |
|
University, TLIP provides a unique opportunity for students from |
|
Texas colleges and universities to serve as interns in the Texas |
|
Legislature, in state agencies, and in local government offices; |
|
students receive academic credit for participating in the program, |
|
which combines study and research with supervised practical |
|
training; and |
|
WHEREAS, A native of Memphis, Katasia Jordan graduated from |
|
high school in the top 10 percent of her class and went on to earn |
|
her bachelor's degree in mass communication at Tennessee State |
|
University, where she won the oratorical competition three years in |
|
a row; she subsequently earned her master's degree in community and |
|
regional planning from The University of Texas at Austin; while |
|
there, she received a prestigious Hogg Foundation Fellowship and |
|
conducted research on socioeconomic issues that affect low-income |
|
communities and communities of color; and |
|
WHEREAS, During her tenure as a legislative intern, |
|
Ms. Jordan helped maintain the representative's schedule and |
|
provided assistance in such policy areas as redistricting, health |
|
and human services, and housing; she plans to continue her |
|
education and pursue a career in public service; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Jordan has skillfully handled her duties in the |
|
office of Representative Giddings, and she may indeed reflect with |
|
pride on her contributions as a legislative intern; now, therefore, |
|
be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commend Katasia Jordan for her dedication and |
|
exemplary work as a participant in the Texas Legislative Internship |
|
Program and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, |
|
be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Ms. Jordan as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
