R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Katasia Jordan, a participant in the Texas
  Legislative Internship Program (TLIP), has rendered outstanding
  service in the office of State Representative Helen Giddings during
  the 82nd Legislative Session; and
         WHEREAS, Established in 1990 and administered by the Mickey
  Leland Center on World Hunger and Peace at Texas Southern
  University, TLIP provides a unique opportunity for students from
  Texas colleges and universities to serve as interns in the Texas
  Legislature, in state agencies, and in local government offices;
  students receive academic credit for participating in the program,
  which combines study and research with supervised practical
  training; and
         WHEREAS, A native of Memphis, Katasia Jordan graduated from
  high school in the top 10 percent of her class and went on to earn
  her bachelor's degree in mass communication at Tennessee State
  University, where she won the oratorical competition three years in
  a row; she subsequently earned her master's degree in community and
  regional planning from The University of Texas at Austin; while
  there, she received a prestigious Hogg Foundation Fellowship and
  conducted research on socioeconomic issues that affect low-income
  communities and communities of color; and
         WHEREAS, During her tenure as a legislative intern,
  Ms. Jordan helped maintain the representative's schedule and
  provided assistance in such policy areas as redistricting, health
  and human services, and housing; she plans to continue her
  education and pursue a career in public service; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Jordan has skillfully handled her duties in the
  office of Representative Giddings, and she may indeed reflect with
  pride on her contributions as a legislative intern; now, therefore,
  be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Katasia Jordan for her dedication and
  exemplary work as a participant in the Texas Legislative Internship
  Program and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and,
  be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Jordan as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
