R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, David Salinas, head baseball coach of Falfurrias |
|
|
High School, achieved a notable milestone by recording his 500th |
|
|
career victory on April 1 |
|
|
, 2011; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Coach Salinas led his squad to an 8-4 triumph over |
|
|
Benavides High School to earn win number 500, and his |
|
|
accomplishment is all the more impressive given that he has lost |
|
|
just 168 games in his 23 years as a coach; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A Falfurrias native who played four years of |
|
|
baseball for the Jerseys in the 1970s, Coach Salinas went on to |
|
|
graduate from The University of Texas at Austin; he began his career |
|
|
as an assistant coach in La Joya, where he worked for three years |
|
|
before accepting the head coaching job at his alma mater in 1989; |
|
|
over the course of his outstanding tenure, he has guided the Jerseys |
|
|
to the 1991 state championship and 15 district titles, and the team |
|
|
has made appearances in 3 state tournaments, 7 regional finals, and |
|
|
18 state playoffs; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Winning 500 games is a rare feat and one that |
|
|
reflects great skill and dedication, and Coach Salinas is truly |
|
|
deserving of special recognition for this remarkable |
|
|
accomplishment; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Coach David Salinas on attaining |
|
|
his 500th career victory and extend to him sincere best wishes for |
|
|
continued success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Coach Salinas as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
