R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, An inspiring couple whose lives have been enhanced
  by a great and enduring love, John and Mary Crosby of Midland
  celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on April 17, 2011; and
         WHEREAS, John E. Crosby, Jr., and the former Mary Louise
  Davis met in Brownwood in 1941, and six weeks later they were united
  in matrimony; through the years, they have nurtured a fulfilling
  marriage that has been made even richer with the addition of 3
  children, John, Stephen, and Mary, as well as 5 grandchildren and 12
  great-grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, Respected members of their community for more than
  half a century, the couple owned and operated The Southwestern
  Company from 1972 until their retirement in 1989, and they have been
  valued congregants of First Baptist Church since settling in
  Midland; Mr. Crosby has also volunteered more than 13,700 hours at
  Allison Cancer Center and Midland Memorial Hospital, and he has
  been active in the Boy Scouts of America, through which he organized
  the Flag Retirement and God and Country event; Mrs. Crosby has
  served as treasurer of her Sunday school class and the Yucca Garden
  Club, and she has shared her time and delicious baked goods with
  patients at the hospital and cancer center; and
         WHEREAS, While much has changed in the world over the past
  seven decades, this devoted husband and wife have remained constant
  in their commitment to one another, and the strength of their love
  has enabled them to meet life's challenges and opportunities with
  grace and optimism; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby honor John and Mary Crosby on their 70th wedding
  anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued
  happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the couple as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
