R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A talented team of four engineering students from
  The University of Texas at Dallas took top honors in its division at
  the 2011 BattleBots/BotsIQ Nationals, held in Miami Beach from
  February 23 through 27; and
         WHEREAS, This annual competition features fighting robots
  created by teams of high school and college students; the robots
  compete two at a time in a closed arena, battering each other until
  one of the mechanical warriors is immobilized or destroyed; in the
  process of designing, building, and maintaining their battlebots,
  students gain experience in working as a team, meeting deadlines,
  and working within tight budget and weight constraints; and
         WHEREAS, The victorious battlebot created by the UT Dallas
  team is named Blender and includes a whirling, steel-toothed disc
  of military-grade titanium that rotates at nearly 100 miles per
  hour; in a shower of sparks, it triumphed against opponents with
  such fearsome names as Witch Doctor and Doomsday, taking first
  prize in the college 120-pound weight class; and
         WHEREAS, Combining the complementary skills of two
  mechanical engineering students and two electrical engineering
  students, the team consisted of Zach Heins, Alex Kollaja, Nikkan
  Yadegary, and Stuart Yun; these resourceful competitors benefited
  from the guidance and encouragement of UT Dallas engineering
  professor Dr. Cy Cantrell; and
         WHEREAS, The members of the UT Dallas battlebot team have
  earned great distinction for themselves and their school through
  their ingenuity, knowledge, and hard work, and they are indeed
  worthy of special recognition; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the members of the battlebot team
  from The University of Texas at Dallas for their victory at the 2011
  BattleBots/BotsIQ Nationals and extend to them sincere best wishes
  for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
