R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Garland city council member Doug Athas has been |
|
|
reappointed to the National League of Cities First Tier Suburbs |
|
|
Council for 2011; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, With his reappointment Mr. Athas is beginning his |
|
|
fourth year of service on the council, which is dedicated to |
|
|
addressing the challenges faced by municipalities located outside |
|
|
of central cities but within the ring of developing suburbs; the |
|
|
council provides local officials with a means of networking with |
|
|
one another and discussing common problems and solutions; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Athas was a Garland plan commissioner for eight |
|
|
years and has represented District 1 on the city council since 2006; |
|
|
by taking a prominent role in the First Tier Suburbs Council, he is |
|
|
helping Garland to negotiate the challenges and opportunities of |
|
|
its position in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex while also earning |
|
|
the city national recognition for its innovative responses to |
|
|
urgent issues; his continued involvement in this worthwhile |
|
|
initiative is good news for area citizens and promises further |
|
|
benefits in the year ahead; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Doug Athas on his reappointment to |
|
|
the National League of Cities First Tier Suburbs Council and extend |
|
|
to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Mr. Athas as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
