R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Family and friends celebrate the life of James Reed |
|
Dunaway of Fort Worth, who passed away on May 22, 2011, at the age of |
|
88; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in Crowley on February 16, 1923, "Punkin" |
|
Dunaway was raised in Fort Worth by his parents, Carrie and Bill |
|
Dunaway; he graduated from Paschal High School in 1940 and enlisted |
|
in the United States Navy in December 1942; during his three-year |
|
naval career, he served in the Pacific theater on the USS |
|
Corregidor, Boxer, and Marcus, and he maintained warm friendships |
|
with his former Boxer shipmates until his passing; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1943, Mr. Dunaway met his match and future wife, |
|
Sally McKee; they were married 65 years before her passing in the |
|
summer of 2008; their love was a blessing to all who knew them and |
|
particularly to their children, grandchildren, and |
|
great-grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Dunaway returned to Texas following his naval |
|
service and began surveying as an employee of the City of Fort |
|
Worth; in the late 1950s, he and his wife started Dunaway Surveying |
|
with several employees in the new garage behind their home; the |
|
company surveyed most of Fort Worth from the 1950s to the early |
|
1980s, when it was merged into Dunaway Associates, LP; Mr. Dunaway |
|
was a member of the Texas Society of Professional Surveyors and |
|
remained active in local and state surveyors associations after his |
|
retirement in 1982; and |
|
WHEREAS, A longtime member of St. Paul United Methodist |
|
Church, Mr. Dunaway participated in its Fellowship Sunday School |
|
Class; he was also a member of the Texas Cattle Raisers Association |
|
and the Masonic Lodge, among other organizations; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Dunaway was the dearly loved "Papa" of five |
|
grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; he and Mrs. Dunaway |
|
took special interest in each one, and they shared many happy times |
|
and travels with them; and |
|
WHEREAS, Although his wise and encouraging words, playful |
|
spirit, and genuine love will be deeply missed by those he left |
|
behind, memories of James Dunaway will forever be treasured by all |
|
those who held him dear; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of James Reed "Punkin" |
|
Dunaway and extend sincere condolences to the members of his |
|
family: to his children, Barbara Wiegand and James R. Dunaway and |
|
his wife, Carol; to his grandchildren, Cami Thompson and her |
|
husband, James, Clif Wiegand and his wife, Schuyler, Christy Smith |
|
and her husband, Jason, Scott Dunaway and his wife, Susan, and Brian |
|
Dunaway; to his great-grandchildren, Sadie and Tinsley Thompson, |
|
Winn and Reed Smith, Ann, Ashley, and Jon Dunaway, and Kingsley |
|
Wiegand; to his brothers, Bill and his wife, Louise, and Foy and his |
|
wife, Virdie; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of James Reed |
|
"Punkin" Dunaway. |
