H.R. No. 2750

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, Those Texans who give freely of their time and talents to benefit the larger community make the world a better place through their actions, and Bud Allan Price of Waco, who passed away on April 27, 2011, at the age of 76, was indeed one such person; and

WHEREAS, Bud Price was born in Kilgore on March 31, 1935, to Donald Price, Sr., and Juanita Price; after graduating from Pine Tree High School in Greggton in 1953, he attended Baylor University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in business administration in 1958; immediately after college, he answered his nation's call to duty by enlisting in the U.S. Army, and he was stationed in Munich, Germany, for most of his service; and

WHEREAS, Following his discharge from the military in 1960, Mr. Price returned to East Texas and accepted a job as an accountant in Longview; in 1962, he began his distinguished banking career when he became a commissioned national bank examiner with the Office of the Controller of the Currency, United States Treasury Department; he served in that capacity in Longview and Dallas, and he later led the Corpus Christi office; in 1966, he joined the National City Bank of Waco, where he served as vice president and senior president in charge of loans until 1979, when he became director and president of Robinson State Bank; in 1988, he was hired as director and president of Waco State Bank; and

WHEREAS, During his tenure with Waco State Bank, the institution merged with Robinson State Bank to form Fidelity Bank of Texas, which Mr. Price continued to serve as president and director; he also served as chair of the board and as the chief executive officer and president of its holding company, Fidelity Bancshares, Inc.; at the time of his retirement, he had more than 42 years of experience in the banking industry; and

WHEREAS, This highly accomplished gentleman played an active role in his community as well and he contributed his time to numerous professional and civic organizations, including the Waco Clearing House Association, the Texas Association of Business, Downtown Waco, Inc., the Waco-McLennan County Library Board, the Friends of the Library Board, the Freeman Center, the American Red Cross, Rebuilding Together of Greater Waco, and the Texas Bankers Association; he also shared his expertise with Lott State Bank and Pakrite Plastics and on the advisory board of the Heart of Texas Council of Governments and the Heart of Texas Region Mental Health Mental Retardation Center; and

WHEREAS, A former director and treasurer of the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum, Mr. Price participated in a host of other worthy groups such as several chambers of commerce, the Kiwanis Club, the Baylor Alumni Association, Waco Masonic Lodge No. 92, and the Masonic Knights Templar, Waco Commandry No. 10; and

WHEREAS, Despite his many professional and civic commitments, Mr. Price made his family and faith his main priorities in life; he enjoyed a rewarding marriage of 47 years with his wife, the former Helen Hardy, whom he wed on August 31, 1963, and he was the father of two sons, Craig and Bradley; he joined the congregation of the First Baptist Church of Waco in 1966, and he served on many church committees, and was ordained as a deacon in 1990; a president of the McCall Sunday school class, he was also a seven-year member of the Bible Study Fellowship; and

WHEREAS, In his free time, Mr. Price carved pipes and made tampers and collected unique tobacco tins and pipes, as well as books, steins, canes, and knives; he enjoyed reading and classical music, and his other hobbies included hunting, fishing, cooking, bartering, crafting belt buckles, and playing "84" with family and friends; and

WHEREAS, Bud Allan Price lived a rich and purposeful life, and he will long be remembered with deep affection by all who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Bud Allan Price and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his wife, Helen Price; to his son, Craig Price; to his brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald Price, Jr., and Martha Price and Gary and Sherry Taylor; to his sister and brother-in-law, Pamela and Fred Christy; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Bud Allan Price.
