R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Highland Park High School has been named among the |
|
top schools in the nation in the Washington Post's High School |
|
Challenge; and |
|
WHEREAS, In selecting the winners of its High School |
|
Challenge, the Washington Post compiled a list of nearly 2,000 |
|
public schools and ranked them according to the number of Advanced |
|
Placement, International Baccalaureate, or Cambridge tests taken |
|
by graduating seniors in the school; Highland Park High, the only |
|
large, comprehensive high school in Texas to receive this |
|
recognition, placed 11th in the state for its students' |
|
participation in advanced placement exams, and it was ranked 35th |
|
in the United States; and |
|
WHEREAS, Highland Park High has long enjoyed a reputation for |
|
academic rigor; it has been rated "exemplary" by the Texas |
|
Education Agency every year since the state accountability system |
|
began, and it is designated as a Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. |
|
Department of Education; moreover, it has been frequently named one |
|
of the country's best schools in such publications as U.S. News and |
|
World Report, Newsweek, Parade, and the Wall Street Journal; and |
|
WHEREAS, Under the skilled leadership of principal Walter |
|
Kelly, the faculty and staff at Highland Park High School dedicate |
|
themselves to providing a challenging, well-rounded education for |
|
the HPHS students, and all associated with the school can take |
|
justifiable pride in this most recent accolade; now, therefore, be |
|
it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Highland Park High School on its |
|
fine showing in the Washington Post's High School Challenge and |
|
extend to the students, faculty, and administration sincere best |
|
wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Highland Park High School as an expression of high |
|
regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
