R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Respected longtime rancher King Terry, Jr., of |
|
Alpine, passed away on May 20, 2011, at the age of 86; and |
|
WHEREAS, King Terry, Jr., was born in Alpine on May 30, 1924, |
|
to King and Lady Terry; after graduating from Alpine High School, he |
|
attended Texas A&M University and earned his degree from Rutgers |
|
University; and |
|
WHEREAS, During World War II, Mr. Terry answered his nation's |
|
call to duty, serving with the U.S. Army's 104th Division as a |
|
rifleman in the European theater; he earned the Purple Heart, the |
|
Bronze Star, and an expert rifleman medal, and in later life, he |
|
received the World War II Veteran Honor and Remembrance Medallion |
|
from the Non Commissioned Officers Association; and |
|
WHEREAS, Following his military service, Mr. Terry returned |
|
to West Texas to raise Hereford cattle, Rambouillet sheep, and |
|
Angora goats at ranches in Sterling, Schleicher, and Brewster |
|
Counties; and |
|
WHEREAS, An active member of the West Texas ranching |
|
community, Mr. Terry served as director and honorary director of |
|
the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, chair of the |
|
Agricultural Stabilization Commission for Terrell and Brewster |
|
Counties, and honorary director of the Highland Hereford |
|
Association; he was also an honorary lifetime member of Texas |
|
CattleWomen; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Terry married the former Becky Bird in 1949, and |
|
together they shared much laughter and love, persevering through |
|
the lean times, as well as enjoying years of abundance; and |
|
WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known King Terry will |
|
forever remember his unique gift for storytelling and the way in |
|
which he took on the challenges of a hard but rewarding life with a |
|
light in his eye, a wicked wit, and a sense of right and wrong as |
|
unshakeable as the West Texas mountains; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of King Terry, Jr., and |
|
extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his wife |
|
of 62 years, Becky Terry; to his sister, Lady Terry Hawkins; to his |
|
nieces, Lady Chachi Hawkins and Terry Hawkins; to his nephew, |
|
Thomas Bunton Hawkins; to his great-nieces, Lora Kirkland and |
|
Natalie Klepper; to his great-nephew, T. C. Hawkins; to his four |
|
great-great-nieces; to his dear friends, Jim and Lisa Pollard; and |
|
to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of King Terry, |
|
