R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, June 19 is the Armed Forces Day of the former
  Republic of Vietnam (South Vietnam); and
         WHEREAS, For two decades, the Republic of Vietnam Armed
  Forces fought bravely against the forces of the communist
  government of the north, an enemy that utilized the techniques of
  terrorism and did not abide by the rules of the Geneva Convention;
  and
         WHEREAS, Despite the hardships they faced, including
  insufficient provisions and corruption among the officer corps, the
  soldiers of South Vietnam fought with courage and a strong sense of
  honor; they achieved significant gains against the enemy, even as
  more than 230,000 soldiers were killed and 300,000 more were
  wounded; and
         WHEREAS, This record of bravery and determination is truly
  deserving of recognition, and it is indeed fitting to pause and
  reflect on the sacrifices of the Republic of Vietnam's Armed Forces
  in their fight for freedom and democracy; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby recognize June 19, 2011, as South Vietnamese
  Armed Forces Day, in honor of all those who fought on behalf of the
  former Republic of Vietnam.
