R E S O L U T I O N
|

|
|
WHEREAS, June 19 is the Armed Forces Day of the former |
|
|
Republic of Vietnam (South Vietnam); and |
|
|
WHEREAS, For two decades, the Republic of Vietnam Armed |
|
|
Forces fought bravely against the forces of the communist |
|
|
government of the north, an enemy that utilized the techniques of |
|
|
terrorism and did not abide by the rules of the Geneva Convention; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Despite the hardships they faced, including |
|
|
insufficient provisions and corruption among the officer corps, the |
|
|
soldiers of South Vietnam fought with courage and a strong sense of |
|
|
honor; they achieved significant gains against the enemy, even as |
|
|
more than 230,000 soldiers were killed and 300,000 more were |
|
|
wounded; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This record of bravery and determination is truly |
|
|
deserving of recognition, and it is indeed fitting to pause and |
|
|
reflect on the sacrifices of the Republic of Vietnam's Armed Forces |
|
|
in their fight for freedom and democracy; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby recognize June 19, 2011, as South Vietnamese |
|
|
Armed Forces Day, in honor of all those who fought on behalf of the |
|
|
former Republic of Vietnam. |
