R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Curtis Culwell of Garland has been reappointed to |
|
the State Board for Educator Certification by Governor Rick Perry; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, First appointed to the board in March 2010, Dr. |
|
Culwell is the superintendent of the Garland Independent School |
|
District; he is a member and former chair of the University |
|
Interscholastic League Legislative Council, a member of the |
|
American and Texas Associations of School Administrators, and a |
|
member of the Select Committee on Public School Finance Weights, |
|
Allotments, and Adjustments; moreover, he was the president of the |
|
Texas School Alliance and has served on the Texas Task Force on |
|
Appraisal Reform; and |
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Culwell earned his bachelor's degree in history |
|
from Sam Houston State University and went on to complete his |
|
master's degree and doctorate in educational administration at |
|
Texas A&M University-Commerce; in 1976, he joined Garland ISD as an |
|
English teacher and then embarked on a distinguished career as an |
|
administrator; he served as superintendent of Lubbock ISD before |
|
returning to lead the Garland school district in 1999; dedicated to |
|
the wider community as well, he was an early graduate of the Chamber |
|
of Commerce Leadership Garland program, and he volunteers for the |
|
March of Dimes and the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas; and |
|
WHEREAS, Throughout his distinguished career, Curtis Culwell |
|
has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to excellence in public |
|
education, and with his ongoing service on the board, his |
|
leadership will continue to benefit schoolchildren throughout the |
|
Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Curtis Culwell on his |
|
reappointment to the State Board for Educator Certification and |
|
extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Dr. Culwell as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
