SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Chapter 448, Government Code, provides for the |
|
|
establishment of a Juneteenth memorial monument on the grounds of |
|
|
the State Capitol, and the State Preservation Board approved the |
|
|
location of the monument at its meeting held on February 14, 2003; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Rather than limiting the focus of the monument to |
|
|
the commemoration of Juneteenth, the legislature supports the |
|
|
establishment of a monument to celebrate the contributions of |
|
|
African American Texans to the history of this state at the location |
|
|
previously approved for a Juneteenth monument; now, therefore, be |
|
|
it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the 82nd Legislature of the State of Texas |
|
|
hereby express support for the establishment of a monument to |
|
|
African American Texans on the grounds of the State Capitol at the |
|
|
location approved for a Juneteenth monument by the State |
|
|
Preservation Board in 2003; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the secretary of state forward an official |
|
|
copy of this resolution to the executive director and members of the |
|
|
State Preservation Board. |
