SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 21

In Memory

of

Nancy J. Berkman

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens of Houston in mourning the loss of Nancy J. Berkman, who died January 9, 2011, at the age of 60; and

WHEREAS, Nancy J. Berkman was born in Houston on October 17, 1950, to Bryant and Marjorie Joyce Biles; she was an exemplary citizen who was admired and respected in her community for her many accomplishments; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Berkman was a member of Congregation Beth Israel in Houston, where she lived most of her life; a woman of courage, strength, and compassion, she had a profound effect on all those who shared in her life; and

WHEREAS, Throughout her life, she gave unselfishly to others, and her wisdom and gracious spirit will not be forgotten by those who knew her; and

WHEREAS, Nancy Berkman was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, and her family and many friends will continue to live with the cherished memories of her life and her many achievements; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Nancy J. Berkman: her devoted husband of 23 years, Larry H. Berkman; her mother, Marjorie Biles; her daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy Berkman, Jamie and Sean McLain, Lauri Berkman, Shelby and Scott Papp, and Becky and Ted Heidorf; her sisters, Linda Craft and Marilyn Terrell; and her six grandchildren; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Nancy J. Berkman.
