SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 27
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Susan Holland Campbell
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
  commemorates the life of Susan Holland Campbell, who died June
  23, 2010, at the age of 53; and
         WHEREAS, A fourth-generation native Texan, Susan
  Campbell was born April 15, 1957, in Beaumont and grew up in
  Georgetown, participating in drill team, choir, and theater at
  school; she graduated from Wichita Falls High School, where
  she sang in the a capella choir and the Old High Singers and
  participated in drama; and
         WHEREAS, She earned a bachelor's degree in history from
  Midwestern State University, where she was named Outstanding
  Woman in her sophomore, junior, and senior years and capped her
  senior year as Lady Midwestern; she was also a student academic
  advisor and was elected to the Chi Omega Sorority and to several
  honor societies; and
         WHEREAS, She went on to pursue graduate studies in historic
  preservation and began a career in downtown and community
  development; she joined the Texas Main Street Program, working in
  McKinney and Austin before serving for 10 years with Downtown
  Fort Worth, holding a variety of positions, including vice
  president and marketing communications director; and
         WHEREAS, She and her husband, James, moved to Bowie in
  1998, and Susan became Main Street director and economic
  development coordinator for the City of Bowie; she was a longtime
  member of the Texas Downtown Association and served as the
  organization's president in 2009; she was active in numerous
  other civic and charitable organizations and continued to share
  her artistic talents by participating as a singer and performer
  in local productions; and
         WHEREAS, A woman of courage, strength, and compassion, she
  gave generously to others, and her family and friends will
  continue to live with the cherished memories of her life and her
  many achievements; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family and friends of Susan Holland Campbell; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Susan Holland Campbell.
