SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 64
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize Travis T. Howard Lewis, who is being honored by the |
|
|
Alpha Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, |
|
|
Incorporated, for 75 years of exemplary service; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, For more than a century, Alpha Kappa Alpha |
|
|
Sorority has pursued its mission of cultivating and encouraging |
|
|
high scholastic and ethical standards, promoting unity and |
|
|
friendship among college women, studying the problems faced by |
|
|
women in order to improve their social stature, maintaining a |
|
|
progressive interest in college life, and being of service to all |
|
|
mankind; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, An educator, philanthropist, and civic leader, |
|
|
Travis T. Howard Lewis was initiated into Alpha Kappa Alpha |
|
|
Sorority in 1936 while attending Wiley College, where she earned |
|
|
a bachelor's degree in English and social studies; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Lewis began her professional career as a |
|
|
librarian at Julia C. Frazier Elementary School and for 40 years |
|
|
served the Dallas Independent School District with honor and |
|
|
distinction; her generosity through the scholarship foundation |
|
|
named in her honor has benefited many deserving students, and she |
|
|
has further supported various institutions of higher education |
|
|
and civic and philanthropic organizations; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, She is truly deserving of recognition for her many |
|
|
contributions to her community, her alma mater, and her sorority; |
|
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend Travis T. Howard Lewis of Alpha Kappa |
|
|
Alpha Sorority on 75 years of exceptional service and extend to |
|
|
her best wishes for continued success in all her future |
|
|
endeavors; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
