SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 73

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize January 23 through January 29, 2011, as Texas Nurse Anesthetists Week; and

WHEREAS, Nurse anesthetists are the oldest recognized group of advanced practice registered nurse specialists and were the first professional group to provide anesthesia in the United States; each year they administer approximately 32 million anesthetics to patients across the country; and

WHEREAS, All graduates of nurse anesthesia educational programs have earned a master's degree and have passed a national examination to receive the title of certified registered nurse anesthetist; and

WHEREAS, Certified registered nurse anesthetists work in every setting where anesthesia is delivered, including hospitals, surgical centers, and physicians' offices; they have been the primary providers of anesthesia to United States military men and women, and they have been crucial in enabling rural health care facilities to provide obstetrical, surgical, and trauma stabilization services in medically underserved areas; and

WHEREAS, Our nation and state are indebted to these health care professionals for the vital medical services they provide, and it is indeed fitting that they be honored for the crucial role they fulfill; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, hereby recognize January 23 through January 29, 2011, as Texas Nurse Anesthetists Week and extend appreciation to all our state's nurse anesthetists for providing quality health care to our citizens; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in honor of these dedicated health care specialists.
