SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 74
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  join Texans across the state in celebrating the outstanding
  success of Communities In Schools; and
         WHEREAS, Established in 1979, the Communities In Schools
  program provides access to services that address children's
  unmet needs so they can stay in school; the program began in
  Houston and now operates 27 programs across the state; it is the
  largest dropout prevention program in the nation; and
         WHEREAS, Communities In Schools of Texas creates strong
  partnerships with local school districts, businesses, and the
  community that provide critical services to students who might
  otherwise drop out of school; and
         WHEREAS, Having a good education is critical to
  maintaining a competitive edge in the workforce, and Communities
  In Schools of Texas is a vital organization that ensures the
  success of students at risk by providing the resources they need
  to stay in school; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, hereby commend Communities In Schools of Texas on
  its exemplary achievements and proclaim January, 2011,
  Communities In Schools Month and January 26, 2011, Communities In
  Schools Day at the State Capitol; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an
  expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
