Geraldine Traugott |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
|
citizens of San Antonio in mourning the loss of Geraldine "Jerry" |
|
Traugott, who died March 17, 2010, at the age of 86; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Geraldine Traugott was born July 9, 1923, to Leoba |
|
Sharper and Arthur George Roemer; a lifelong resident of San |
|
Antonio, she attended Saint Gerard's and Saint Martin Hall |
|
Elementary Schools and Our Lady of the Lake High School and |
|
College; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, She married her husband, the late Daniel |
|
Frederick Traugott, on April 21, 1943, just prior to his |
|
deployment to serve the nation in World War II; following his |
|
return from the war, she served as the chief campaign manager for |
|
each of his five successful bids for county commissioner, and |
|
after his death, in 1989, she took over and ran his three |
|
businesses until 2005; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A natural leader, Mrs. Traugott was active in |
|
numerous religious and civic organizations, including Kappa |
|
Sigma Phi Sorority, Our Lady of the Lake Alumni Association, the |
|
Good Earth Garden Club, the San Antonio Symphony League, and the |
|
Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women; among the highlights of |
|
her life were her induction into the Equestrian Order of the Holy |
|
Sepulchre of Jerusalem and achieving its highest rank, Lady Grand |
|
Cross; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Traugott had a passion for bridge that lasted |
|
throughout her life; she played monthly with her original bridge |
|
club, a group that has been together for more than 60 years, and |
|
she also played every Saturday and participated in the Symphony |
|
Bridge Marathon; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A woman of courage, strength, and compassion, she |
|
gave unselfishly to others, and her radiant spirit, her |
|
commitment to her family, and her enthusiasm for living each day |
|
to the fullest will not be forgotten; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, |
|
and her family and many friends will long cherish the memories of |
|
her life and her many achievements; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd |
|
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|
family of Geraldine Traugott: her children and their spouses, |
|
Tyler and Sybil Traugott, Kathryn Wilson, Pony and Larry |
|
Karam, Roemer and Willette Traugott, and Lisa and Raul |
|
Contreras; her sister, Patricia Loretta Barnes; her six |
|
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and numerous |
|
nieces and nephews; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|
Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|
memory of Geraldine Traugott. |
