SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 133

WHEREAS, The year 2011 has been designated as World Veterinary Year in recognition of the creation of veterinary education and the veterinary medical profession; and

WHEREAS, In 1761, 250 years ago, the first school of veterinary medicine was established in Lyons, France; and

WHEREAS, Today, veterinarians make substantial contributions in the improvement of animal, public, and environmental health, food safety and biosecurity, and conservation; and

WHEREAS, Texas A&M University is home to the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, the only college of veterinary medicine in the State of Texas; and

WHEREAS, The faculty, staff, and students of the Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences contribute to the global good through their mission of teaching, research, and service in the field of veterinary medicine; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, hereby honor the Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and the Texas Veterinary Medical Association, as well as the veterinary medical profession, on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the establishment of veterinary medical education and the veterinary profession and extend to all those associated with veterinary medicine sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
