SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 187

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Marcus High School, whose marching band recently earned its third consecutive win in the University Interscholastic League Class 5A marching band championship competition; and

WHEREAS, The marching band at Marcus High School presented an outstanding program featuring music from such luminaries as Bach, Mozart, and Strauss; its visual program featured 10 large chandeliers that lit up in the final part of the performance; the school's first-place performance on November 3, 2010, followed two previous state championships in the biennial contest, in 2006 and in 2008; and

WHEREAS, Marcus High School in the Lewisville Independent School District provides its students with an environment conducive to learning and gifted leaders to guide them; their worthy accomplishments attest to their dedication and perseverance in pursuing their goals; and

WHEREAS, The students in the Marcus High School band, under the direction of three-time champion band director Amanda Drinkwater, demonstrated exceptional proficiency in their performance; they are a source of tremendous pride for their school, their families, and their community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Marcus High School Marching Band for their hard work and outstanding achievements and extend to them congratulations on earning the Class 5A title in the University Interscholastic League marching band contest; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for them as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
