SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 196
WHEREAS, On March 10, 2011, many proud residents of
Seagoville will be in Austin for Seagoville Day at the State
Capitol in celebration of this illustrious town and its
contributions to the State of Texas; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 1876, the town was originally named
Seago after T. K. Seago, a settler who cleared his land of timber
and established the community's first store; the first official
plat of the city was recorded in the Dallas County deed records in
1883, and in 1910, the post office changed the town's name to
  Seagoville to avoid confusion with a similarly named community;
  and
WHEREAS, Located in the rich Blackland Prairie region near
the Trinity River, Seago was ideally suited for agricultural
development, and cotton and alfalfa were the two most prominent
crops; today, the economy is more diversified, but residents and
businesses alike may still take advantage of the area's
  reasonable land prices; and
WHEREAS, The inhabitants of this bustling little town are
proud of their small-town atmosphere, yet the community's
proximity to the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex enables residents
and visitors to have easy access to a wide range of big-city
cultural and sports activities; thus, the community truly
embodies the best aspects of both rural and urban life; and
WHEREAS, Seagoville also boasts a variety of outdoor
recreational opportunities at its numerous parks, tennis
facilities, and senior citizens and youth centers; nearby Lake
Ray Hubbard offers nearly 23,000 acres for fishing and water
sports, while nature lovers can learn more about the area at the
Post Oak Preserve and Environmental Center; and
WHEREAS, Each October, the community celebrates the
migration of the beautiful monarch butterfly with Seagofest, a
fun-filled event for the entire family that provides a welcome
opportunity for residents to pay tribute to their shared history
  and culture; and
WHEREAS, The people of Seagoville take justifiable pride
in their community and in the unique role the town and its
citizens have played in the development of the Lone Star State,
and the Texas Senate is proud to join them in the celebration of
Seagoville Day; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
Legislature, hereby recognize March 10, 2011, as Seagoville Day
at the State Capitol and join the citizens of that town in paying
tribute to one of Texas' finest communities; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the city of Seagoville as a memento of this special day and as an
expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
