SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 202
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize the Texas Economic Development Council, also known as
  the TEDC, on the occasion of its 50th year of service; and
 
         WHEREAS, The Texas Economic Development Council,
  originally known as the Texas Industrial Development Council,
  was founded in 1961 as an organization of professionals
  interested in the economic development of Texas; and
 
         WHEREAS, The council was first housed at the Industrial
  Economics Research Office at Texas A&M University and remained in
  College Station until April of 1991, when it was moved to Austin;
  and
 
         WHEREAS, The council was instrumental in the creation of
  the economic development sales tax in 1989 and has supported
  other critical economic development programs such as the Texas
  Enterprise Fund, the Texas Emerging Technology Fund, the Texas
  Economic Development Act, and the Skills Development Fund; and
 
         WHEREAS, The Texas Economic Development Council's 800
  members are from every corner of the state and work tirelessly to
  bring jobs and investment to Texas; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, hereby honor the Texas Economic Development Council
  for its support of economic development efforts at the state and
  local level and congratulate the council as it celebrates its
  50th year in 2011; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the council as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
