SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 206
WHEREAS, Multiple sclerosis is a chronic and disabling
disease of the central nervous system in which the progression,
severity, and specific symptoms cannot be foreseen; and
WHEREAS, Every hour of every day, someone new is diagnosed
with the disease, which can erode a person's abilities and hopes,
halt a career, and unravel the fabric of families; and
WHEREAS, Last year in Texas, more than $20 million was
raised to find the cure for this disease and to develop effective
treatments, as well as to provide a wide range of programs to
improve the lives of the more than 20,000 individuals living with
multiple sclerosis in our state; and
WHEREAS, This investment is paying off in significant
advances in treatment, including new medications that may reduce
or delay future disability for people with the disease; and
WHEREAS, While research advances have brought us closer to
finding the cure, much remains to be done, and services must
continue to be provided to those who live with the disease; and
WHEREAS, Public and private agencies are available to
serve the constantly changing needs of those living with multiple
sclerosis in Texas and their families, and it is imperative to
extend the essential services provided by these agencies to all
in need; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
Legislature, hereby recognize March 1, 2011, as Multiple
Sclerosis Day at the State Capitol and encourage every effort to
inform Texans about multiple sclerosis and the services
available to those living with this disease; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
  commemoration of this day.
