SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 219
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  join Texans across the state in celebrating February 15, 2011, as
  United Way Day at the State Capitol; and
 
         WHEREAS, Charitable giving and volunteerism are an
  important part of our civil society, and the United Way plays a
  vital role in bringing people together in order to meet the needs
  of the most vulnerable among us; and
 
         WHEREAS, With 88 local organizations distributed throughout
  Texas, the United Way works to help meet the needs and achieve the
  specific goals of each community, in addition to furthering the United
  Way's systemwide goals of improving education, income, and health and
  maintaining the 2-1-1 information and referral system; and
 
         WHEREAS, United Way organizations mobilize thousands of
  volunteers each year, drawing on the innate compassion of Texans
  and strengthening the fiber of our communities; local affiliates
  collect hundreds of millions of dollars in charitable donations
  that are then reinvested in the local communities they serve; and
 
         WHEREAS, It is truly fitting that the United Way be
  recognized for its many achievements in making Texas a better place
  in which to live, work, and raise a family; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, hereby commend the staff, volunteers, and donors of
  United Way organizations across the state for their commitment to
  the people of Texas and extend to them best wishes for a memorable
  United Way Day at the State Capitol; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  them as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
