SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 222
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  William Henry Borchers
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
  citizens of New Braunfels in mourning the loss of longtime
  attorney and civic leader William Henry Borchers, who died
  January 2, 2011, at the age of 87; and
 
         WHEREAS, Bill Borchers was born in Lavaca County on August
  13, 1923; he graduated from Yoakum High School in 1940 and
  studied typing and shorthand at Baldwin Business College; he
  joined the United States Army and served in the infantry during
  World War II; and
 
         WHEREAS, After his military service, he completed his
  undergraduate studies at Texas A&M University and earned his law
  degree from Baylor Law School; he worked as a claims adjuster for
  Allstate Insurance Company, and upon passing the bar
  examination, he worked as an assistant district attorney in
  Harris County; he then joined the law firm of Carl & Lee in
  Houston; and
 
         WHEREAS, Bill married Joyce Word on June 30, 1956; the
  family moved to New Braunfels in the fall of 1959 and Bill began
  his own legal practice; in 1963, he and Joyce created the Oakwood
  Estates subdivision, and from that point forward, Bill played an
  active role in the land development business; and
 
         WHEREAS, He served as Comal County Democratic Chairman
  from 1960 to 1964, and in 1965, he was appointed city attorney; he
  was the oldest practicing attorney in New Braunfels and a mentor
  and role model for young attorneys who often sought his counsel;
  and
 
         WHEREAS, He was instrumental in the creation of the New
  Braunfels National Bank, now Wells Fargo Bank; he was a member of
  First United Methodist Church and the Bible study fellowship; he
  served as Exalted Ruler of the New Braunfels Elks Lodge, and he
  was an active member of the Breakfast Lions Club for more than 25
  years; and
 
         WHEREAS, Bill Borchers was a highly esteemed gentleman who
  was renowned for his good business principles and his old-style
  standards; he was regarded a true country gentleman and a good,
  honest person, who always looked out for the best interests of
  his community; he will be deeply missed by all who knew him; now,
  therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of William Henry
  Borchers and extend sincere condolences to his bereaved family:
  his daughters, Marcia McGlothlin, and her husband, Forrest, and
  Bonnie Duettra, and her husband, Andrew; his brothers, Dr.
  Charles Borchers; O. R. "Jimmy" Borchers, and his wife, Betty
  Ann; and Marion "Jack" Borchers, and his wife, Robbie; his
  brother-in-law, Tim D. Word, and his wife, Suzanne; and his four
  grandchildren and great-grandson; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of William Henry Borchers.
