SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 240
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Archbishop S. V. Teague for his leadership and many
  years in the church ministry; and
         WHEREAS, Sylvester Teague was born on August 8, 1926, in
  Cameron, Texas; he was a member of the Church of God in Christ and
  began preaching in 1936 at the tender age of 10; and
         WHEREAS, He attended Johnny Moore High School, where he was
  a basketball and track star, and Prairie View A&M University,
  where he studied theology and law and also ran track; he served in
  the United States Marine Corps for two years and then moved to
  Chicago, Illinois, where he married the late Vernell Robinson in
  1946; they were blessed with a daughter, the late Evelyn Teague
  Thompson, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, He served as a pastor in many locations around the
  country, including the Two Wing Tabernacle in Washington, D.C.;
  in 1970, he moved with his family to Austin, Texas; he started the
  United Church of God in Christ of America, Incorporated, in 1986;
  since becoming archbishop, he has consecrated and ordained more
  than 60 bishops around the world; and
         WHEREAS, Archbishop Teague is a highly respected church
  leader who has ministered faithfully to the spiritual needs of
  many Christians over the years; he lives in Austin with his wife,
  Evangelist Cheryl Cline Teague, and family, and he continues to
  serve as a positive role model and an inspiration for others;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, hereby commend Archbishop S. V. Teague for his
  devoted and dedicated leadership and his many contributions to
  the church; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
