SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 248
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize Ashley Melnick, Miss Texas 2010, and Madison Fuller, |
|
|
Miss Teen Texas 2010, on the occasion of their visit to Austin and |
|
|
recognize March 28, 2011, as Miss Texas Day at the State Capitol; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Ashley Melnick, who is from Fort Worth, is a |
|
|
broadcast journalism major at Texas Christian University, where |
|
|
she is on the Dean's List and a recipient of a Texas Christian |
|
|
University Academic Merit Scholarship; she is a member of the |
|
|
Student Foundation and covers state and national government news |
|
|
for the Daily Skiff, the student newspaper; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, She graduated from high school with Texas |
|
|
Scholars distinction and was a member of the National Honor |
|
|
Society; she received the Wilmington Music School Jacquelin |
|
|
Beach Faulcon Scholarship Award, and she is a worship music |
|
|
leader; she is affiliated with the Autism Society of America, and |
|
|
during her tenure as Miss Texas, she is acting as a spokesperson |
|
|
for autism; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Madison Fuller is from Fairfield, Texas; she |
|
|
attends Fairfield High School and was selected for the Duke |
|
|
University Talent Search Program; she received the President's |
|
|
Award for Academic Excellence and has received a first place in |
|
|
oral reading from the University Interscholastic League; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Her platform issue focuses on bullying and how to |
|
|
deal with bullies, and she wrote and illustrated a children's book |
|
|
on the issue; Madison's other activities include varsity |
|
|
cheerleading, volunteering for Camp of the Rising Sun, and serving |
|
|
as president of Future Farmers of America Greenhand; she has |
|
|
performed onstage in Branson, Missouri, and she plans to obtain a |
|
|
degree in journalism and become a broadcast journalist; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Ashley and Madison are exemplary young women who |
|
|
represent the State of Texas well, and they are indeed worthy of |
|
|
special recognition; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend Miss Texas Ashley Melnick and Miss |
|
|
Teen Texas Madison Fuller for their many accomplishments and |
|
|
recognize March 28, 2011, as Miss Texas Day; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared to |
|
|
commemorate this special day. |
