SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 253

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize February 16, 2011, as Susan G. Komen for the Cure Advocacy Day in Texas; and

WHEREAS, Susan G. Komen for the Cure has the world's largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists; the mission of the organization is to raise awareness about breast cancer and to support research, education, and treatment programs; through its efforts, the early detection and treatment of the disease has led to survival rates that were unimaginable before the inception of this breast cancer movement; and

WHEREAS, Events such as Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, which has raised nearly $800 million, sponsorships with major corporations, and grassroots fundraisers make Susan G. Komen for the Cure the world's largest source of nonprofit funds for breast cancer research and outreach; and

WHEREAS, For more than 25 years, Susan G. Komen for the Cure has worked with partners, communities, and civic organizations worldwide to save lives, empower people, and ensure quality care for all while energizing science to find a cure for this debilitating disease; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, hereby commend Susan G. Komen for the Cure for its enduring commitment to seeking timely and effective treatment for those with breast cancer and extend best wishes to all its supporters for a memorable Susan G. Komen for the Cure Advocacy Day in Texas; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in honor of this special event. Nelson, Lucio, Shapiro
