SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 254
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  welcome concerned citizens from across the state who are
  assembled in Austin on February 16, 2011, for Substance Abuse
  Prevention and Treatment Advocacy Day at the Capitol; and
 
         WHEREAS, Substance abuse is a serious issue with social and
  financial costs that can destroy lives and families; the
  prevention of substance abuse and the treatment of chemical
  dependency are worthy endeavors and provide positive and
  measurable contributions to society; and
 
         WHEREAS, Since 2005 the Texas Association of Addiction
  Professionals, the Association of Substance Abuse Programs, and
  the Texas Summit Committee for Prevention have been working
  together to carry the message that prevention and treatment of
  substance abuse are vital services for the state; and
 
         WHEREAS, The coalition is hosting Substance Abuse
  Prevention and Treatment Advocacy Day this year to provide a
  forum for the discussion of substance abuse issues in the state
  and to advocate for legislative support in fighting substance
  abuse and in bringing greater awareness to this affliction; now,
  therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, hereby proclaim February 16, 2011, Substance Abuse
  Prevention and Treatment Advocacy Day at the Capitol and commend
  all those who work each and every day to prevent and treat
  substance abuse; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
  recognition of this occasion.
