SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 286
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize Jack Barker of Coppell, who has been named one of the |
|
|
top youth volunteers in Texas for 2011 and a Distinguished |
|
|
Finalist by the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Prudential Financial, in partnership with the |
|
|
National Association of Secondary School Principals, presents |
|
|
these awards annually to honor young people across the nation for |
|
|
outstanding volunteerism and community service; now in its 16th |
|
|
year, the program is the country's largest youth recognition |
|
|
program based on volunteer service; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A seventh-grader at Coppell Middle School West, |
|
|
Jack drew on his own experience during treatments for leukemia to |
|
|
come up with the idea for "Jack's Closet," which he stocked with |
|
|
"Snuggie" fleece blankets to distribute to children undergoing |
|
|
treatments for cancer; he secured donations to support the |
|
|
project and was able to gain the cooperation of the blanket |
|
|
manufacturer, who also contributed to this worthy effort; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The success and vitality of our communities, our |
|
|
state, and our American society depend in great measure upon the |
|
|
dedication of young people like Jack, who use their time and |
|
|
talents to serve others; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Jack has shown by his example that he personifies |
|
|
the true spirit of giving to the community; he is truly deserving |
|
|
of congratulations on receiving this prestigious honor; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend Jack Barker for his commitment to |
|
|
service and volunteerism in his community and extend to him best |
|
|
wishes in all his future endeavors; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
