SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 301
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  join the citizens of Flower Mound in celebrating the 50th
  anniversary of the town's incorporation; and
         WHEREAS, Located in southern Denton County, Flower Mound
  is named for a 50-foot-high pristine hill covered with Indian
  paintbrush and other wildflowers; the mound was once used by
  Indians as a holy place; and
         WHEREAS, The town is located on the shore of Grapevine Lake
  and was developed from what was initially a farming and
  cattle-raising community first settled in the mid-19th century;
  the town owes much of its beginnings to Edward S. Marcus, a scion
  of the famous Neiman-Marcus empire, who believed the area could
  one day become a thriving and unique city; and
         WHEREAS, Edward Marcus owned a weekend house on the
  property where Forestwood Middle School now stands; he also owned
  a fine herd of registered Angus cattle, and he employed the
  legendary Bob Rheudasil to manage the herd; the two men are
  credited with beautifying the land with a variety of oak trees
  and crape myrtles, helping to make the area the welcoming
  showplace it is today; and
         WHEREAS, After a judge ruled against an attempt by the City
  of Irving to annex portions of the land that is now Flower Mound,
  area leaders petitioned to have Flower Mound incorporated; the
  town of Flower Mound was incorporated in February of 1961, and
  Bob Rheudasil served as its mayor; William "Doc" Wilkerson played
  an instrumental role in its incorporation and in helping to have
  the town's first water system installed; and
         WHEREAS, A beautiful north central Texas town, Flower
  Mound has experienced tremendous growth over the last 20 years;
  the city boasts an excellent school system, low tax rates, and
  safe neighborhoods; Flower Mound has been recognized by Money
  magazine as the Number One Place to Live in Texas and was ranked
  second in the nation; it has been further noted in national
  listings for its technological advancement, its standard of
  living, and its education, and it was ranked fifth in Frommer's
  list of Top Affordable Communities and Best Places to Raise Your
  Family; and
         WHEREAS, Flower Mound balances a unique blend of country
  atmosphere with a dynamic environment for economic development;
  a masterfully planned community, it is an ideal place in which to
  live, work, and raise a family; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, hereby commend the leadership and residents of
  Flower Mound for their successful efforts in developing and
  preserving the town's charm, grace, and elegance and extend best
  wishes to all as they begin the five-month celebration of the
  town's 50th anniversary; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
  honor of the 50th anniversary of Flower Mound.
