SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 313
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
welcome the Denton County delegation to Austin for a celebration |
|
|
of Denton County Days at the State Capitol on February 21 and 22, |
|
|
2011; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Created in 1846 out of land from the original |
|
|
Peters Colony Grant in Fannin County, Denton County is named for |
|
|
John B. Denton, a pioneer lawyer and Methodist minister; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Denton County is located in North Texas, and the |
|
|
City of Denton serves as the county seat; the stately Denton |
|
|
County Courthouse, with its imposing limestone blocks and |
|
|
majestic clock tower, dominates the square and is one of the most |
|
|
impressive sights in the area; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Noted for its many outstanding educational |
|
|
opportunities, Denton County is home to 11 public school |
|
|
districts; the University of North Texas, Texas Woman's |
|
|
University, and North Central Texas College provide access to |
|
|
exemplary higher education; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Denton County offers a welcoming business climate |
|
|
and excellent recreational and cultural opportunities that |
|
|
contribute in significant ways to the region's thriving economy |
|
|
and progressive development; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, With its natural beauty and rich history, Denton |
|
|
County is truly a unique and impressive part of our state; its |
|
|
citizens can justifiably take great pride in their county's many |
|
|
contributions to the legacy of the Lone Star State; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd |
|
|
Legislature, hereby join the Denton County delegation in |
|
|
celebrating February 21 and 22, 2011, as Denton County Days at |
|
|
the State Capitol and extend to them best wishes for a memorable |
|
|
celebration; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
|
|
honor of this special occasion. |
