SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 342
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  join the citizens of Hudspeth County and Texans across the state
  in celebrating Hudspeth County Day at the State Capitol; and
 
         WHEREAS, Situated in the Trans-Pecos region of West Texas,
  Hudspeth County was formed in 1917 from land in eastern El Paso
  County and named for State Senator Claude Benton Hudspeth; and
 
         WHEREAS, Rich in minerals and crisscrossed with a series of
  natural springs, Hudspeth County has been home to human
  habitation since prehistory; the Jornada Mogollón people lived
  in the area for hundreds of years, and 19th century settlers,
  along with the United States Army and Texas Rangers, battled
  Mescalero Apaches for control of the land; and
 
         WHEREAS, Following the arrival of the railroad in the
  1880s, numerous agricultural communities arose, and American
  pima cotton, hay, cantaloupes, and cattle ranching have become
  mainstays of the county's economy; and
 
         WHEREAS, The citizens of Hudspeth County are confidently
  facing the future while continuing to embrace their rich and
  colorful past; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, hereby commend the people of Hudspeth County for
  their many important contributions to our state's history and
  progress and extend to them best wishes for a memorable Hudspeth
  County Day at the State Capitol; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  them as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
