SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 354
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Edward Galvan
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
  citizens of Corpus Christi in mourning the loss of beloved
  educator and musician Edward Galvan, who died February 15, 2011,
  at the age of 83; and
         WHEREAS, Passionate about music from an early age, Edward
  Galvan used his immense talent not only as a means to a career,
  but as a way to inspire many generations of students to reach
  their full potential; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Galvan began playing professionally with his
  brothers as Eddie and the Galvan Brothers alongside such legends
  as Gene Krupa, Tommy Dorsey, Stan Kenton, and Duke Ellington; he
  went on to entertain audiences for more than 40 years as leader of
  the Eddie Galvan Orchestra; and
         WHEREAS, He was band director for many years at Roy Miller
  High School, where his bands won numerous sweepstakes awards at
  University Interscholastic League competitions and where the
  band hall has been named in his honor; he was also a founder of
  the Texas Jazz Festival and was active in community affairs for
  many years as a commissioner of the Port of Corpus Christi; and
         WHEREAS, A man of commitment, discipline, and
  understanding, he gave unselfishly to others, and his family and
  friends will continue to live with the cherished memories of his
  life and his many achievements; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family and friends of Edward Galvan; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Edward Galvan.
