SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 386
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize The University of Texas at San Antonio's Alumni
  Association, which is celebrating March 8, 2011, as UTSA Day at
  the Capitol; and
         WHEREAS, The University of Texas at San Antonio was created
  by the Texas Legislature in 1969 and today is emerging as a
  national research university providing world-class research and
  educational opportunities for undergraduate and graduate
  students and preparing student leaders for the global
  environment; and
         WHEREAS, The alumni of The University of Texas at San Antonio
  now number over 82,000; 90 percent reside in the great State of
  Texas, and over 60 percent reside in or around Bexar County; this
  exceptional institution's alumni continue to advance knowledge and
  change lives through academic excellence; and
         WHEREAS, The University of Texas at San Antonio Alumni
  Association has awarded over $850,000 in scholarships to
  students since 1982 and continues to help the university build on
  a tradition of access and opportunity; and
         WHEREAS, The association's endowed scholarship fund has
  now surpassed $1 million and will begin funding an additional
  $30,000 in scholarships annually, thereby helping even more
  students achieve their dream and prepare for a competitive world;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, hereby commend the Alumni Association of The University
  of Texas at San Antonio on its longstanding commitment to serving
  the university, its students, and its alumni through scholarships
  and the promotion of academic excellence; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the Alumni Association of The University of Texas at San Antonio
  as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
