SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 429
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Aida Rhoda Brooks, who has been named president of the
  Liberian Association of Greater Houston; and
         WHEREAS, Aida Brooks was born in Kigali, Rwanda, on August
  18, 1955, and relocated to Liberia in 1963; there, she was
  adopted by Angie Elizabeth Brooks; she graduated from high school
  in Liberia and began her higher education at the University of
  Liberia; and
         WHEREAS, Because of civil war in Liberia, she immigrated to
  the United States, and she finished her education at Queens
  University in Queens, New York; and
         WHEREAS, With her innovative and entrepreneurial spirit,
  she was soon the owner of an African restaurant, which flourished
  and enabled her to open another business, an African art gallery,
  in Hempstead, New York; Aida never forgot her Liberian home, and
  each year, she returns to Liberia to volunteer and support the
  community; and
         WHEREAS, She moved to Houston in 2004 to provide support
  for her ailing mother, and she soon got involved with the
  Liberian community in Houston; with her special talent for
  creating relationships, building alliances, and motivating
  others, she quickly became a leader in the Houston Liberian
  community, and she recently took office as president of the
  Liberian Association of Greater Houston; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, hereby congratulate Aida R. Brooks on her selection
  as president of the Liberian Association of Greater Houston and
  extend to her best wishes for continued success in all her future
  endeavors; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
