Arthur George Patterson |
| |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|
|
commemorates the life of Arthur George "Pat" Patterson, who died |
|
|
February 28, 2011, at the age of 81; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Patterson was the last surviving member of the |
|
|
rescue team that responded to the deadly fire at the State |
|
|
Capitol on February 6, 1983; he served the state with great honor |
|
|
and distinction as a Capitol Security Police Officer from 1975 to |
|
|
1991 and as a member of the Texas Department of Public Safety; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, During the course of the fire, Mr. Patterson |
|
|
braved smoke and flames to help rescue fellow officer Joel |
|
|
Quintanilla, who had been injured while attempting to save people |
|
|
trapped by the blaze; his bravery and dedication to duty set an |
|
|
enduring example for all who aspire to serve the public good; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Pat Patterson was born June 6, 1929, to Tommy and |
|
|
Edna Patterson; he was an exemplary citizen who was admired and |
|
|
respected in his community for his integrity and courage; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Patterson was a devoted husband, father, and |
|
|
grandfather and was beloved by his family and friends, who will |
|
|
long cherish the memories of his life and his many |
|
|
accomplishments; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd |
|
|
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|
|
family of Arthur George Patterson: his children, George Patterson, |
|
|
Brenda Smith, Sandra Patterson, Karla Larson, and Cindy Patterson; |
|
|
his sister, Clara Young; and his 18 grandchildren, 35 |
|
|
great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; and, be it |
|
|
further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|
|
Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|
|
memory of Arthur George "Pat" Patterson. |
