SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 462
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Israel Smith on the joyous occasion of his 100th
  birthday on March 24, 2011; and
         WHEREAS, Israel Smith was born in Baltimore on March 24,
  1911; in 1915, he moved with his family to Tyler, Texas, where he
  has resided ever since; and
         WHEREAS, Israel graduated from The University of Texas
  School of Law, and in 1937, he married Eve Abramsky; she passed
  away in 2006; and
         WHEREAS, The couple was blessed with two children, Manny
  and Jerome, a granddaughter, Judy, and two great-grandchildren,
  Jamie and Jake; and
         WHEREAS, Israel was a prominent lawyer in the Tyler
  community; he served as president of Western Foundry for many
  years and was an active Mason; he is a lifelong member of the
  Jewish congregation Ahavath Achim; and
         WHEREAS, He has generously supported the Jewish Federation
  and Tyler Day Nursery; he remains to this day a supporter of The
  University of Texas and is an avid fan of its Longhorn football
  team; and
         WHEREAS, Over the years, he has served as a leader in his
  community, and he is noted for his generosity and his enthusiasm
  for living each day to the fullest; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, hereby recognize Israel Smith as a treasured
  citizen of our state and extend to him congratulations on the
  occasion of his 100th birthday; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in his
  honor.
