SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 469

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to pay tribute to the Golden Triangle Women's History Museum for its outstanding work in celebrating the many contributions that women have made to our state's heritage; and

WHEREAS, This worthy organization recognizes and celebrates multicultural women in the Golden Triangle; it was founded in order to collect important artifacts and tell the stories of the Golden Triangle's women so that the lessons of the past can be called upon to guide the future; and

WHEREAS, Throughout history, women of every race, class, and ethnic background have made vital contributions to the growth and strength of our state and nation; they have played an important role in many causes that have changed society for the better, including the abolitionist movement, the push for workers' rights, and the struggle for civil rights; and

WHEREAS, Women led the way in securing their own rights of suffrage and equal opportunity in the face of intense opposition so that the nation could achieve the full potential of all its citizens and live up to the ideals in its founding documents; and

WHEREAS, The Golden Triangle Women's History Museum is holding its first annual Women's History Celebration on March 6, 2011, during National Women's History Month; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, hereby commend the Golden Triangle Women's History Museum on its commitment to preserving the past and celebrating the many contributions that women have made to the rich legacy of our state and nation; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for this exemplary institution as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
