SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 470
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
recognize the Texas Star Music Festival in Vidor; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Vidor has been home to many prominent musicians |
|
through the years, including George Jones, Tracy Byrd, Clay |
|
Walker, Lou Smith, Billy Jo Spears, Lessie Lyle, and Don Rollins, |
|
leading the city to adopt as its slogan "Where the Music Began"; |
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, To recognize these trailblazers and to encourage |
|
other local musicians to develop and display their talents, the |
|
Texas Star Music Festival was created in 2010; this outstanding |
|
event attracted more than 3,500 people and featured such |
|
well-known performers as Asleep at the Wheel and Georgette Jones, |
|
daughter of George Jones and Tammy Wynette; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, City leaders have initiated a Walk of Fame to pay |
|
tribute to Vidor's musical legacy, with granite stars bearing the |
|
names of honorees lining the sidewalk outside the new Vidor City |
|
Hall; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This year's Texas Star Music Festival will feature |
|
a local talent contest in addition to an exceptional lineup of |
|
musical acts and other attractions; it is truly fitting that |
|
Vidor be recognized for its commitment to celebrating its rich |
|
musical heritage; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd |
|
Legislature, hereby commend the organizers of the Texas Star |
|
Music Festival and extend to them best wishes for a memorable |
|
event; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
the festival as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
