Richard R. Johnson |
| |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
|
|
citizens of Corpus Christi in mourning the loss of Richard R. |
|
|
"Dik" Johnson, who died February 25, 2011, at the age of 68; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Richard Johnson was born October 6, 1942, in |
|
|
Cheboygan, Michigan; he served with honor in the United States |
|
|
Navy for four years aboard the USS Bonhomme Richard; and
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Johnson earned a bachelor's degree in |
|
|
industrial education from Central Michigan University; he moved |
|
|
to Corpus Christi in 1976 and soon began a career at the Corpus |
|
|
Christi Army Depot, where he held several important positions, |
|
|
including security chief and computer chief; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Johnson was active in numerous organizations |
|
|
devoted to representing the interests of people with |
|
|
disabilities, including the Corpus Christi Army Depot |
|
|
Individuals with Disabilities Program Committee and the Texas |
|
|
Governor's Committee for Persons with Disabilities; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, He was recognized numerous times for his |
|
|
outstanding performance both at work and as a volunteer, and |
|
|
March 15, 1989, was proclaimed Richard Johnson Day in Corpus |
|
|
Christi in recognition of his dedication and service; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and determination, he |
|
|
gave generously to others, and his family and friends will |
|
|
continue to live with the cherished memories of his life and his |
|
|
many achievements; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd |
|
|
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|
|
family and friends of Richard R. Johnson; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|
|
Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|
|
memory of Richard Johnson. |
