SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 529
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Dr. David K. Teegarden, who is retiring after 40 years
  of devoted service as a physician and educator; and
 
         WHEREAS, Dr. Teegarden has long been committed to
  improving medical care and making it more accessible for the
  people of East Texas; he has also focused on developing physician
  leaders throughout the region; and
 
         WHEREAS, Dr. Teegarden graduated from The University of
  Texas Medical Branch in 1971 and completed an internship at
  Brackenridge Hospital in Austin and a residency and fellowship at
  the Mayo Clinic and Baylor University Medical Center, becoming
  board certified in both internal medicine and gastroenterology;
  and
 
         WHEREAS, He served in the United States Army and was
  stationed at the Army Institute of Surgical Research at Brooke
  Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, where he was chief of the
  division of gastroenterology; he received the Army Commendation
  Medal; and
 
         WHEREAS, Dr. Teegarden moved to Tyler and began a long
  career of providing medical services to people throughout the
  East Texas area; a pioneer in bringing specialty care to patients
  outside of a major metropolitan area, he traveled to rural
  communities, providing services in small rural hospitals and
  helping to keep such hospitals in local communities; and
 
         WHEREAS, Dr. Teegarden was one of the four founders of the
  Trinity Clinic and Trinity Mother Frances Health System, which
  was formed through the merger of Mother Frances Hospital and 56
  physicians in 1995; the newly formed health system was one of the
  first fully integrated health care systems in the state, and he
  currently serves as its president and chief medical officer; and
 
         WHEREAS, He also holds a master of science degree in
  medical management and has served as an adjunct professor at
  several institutions, working tirelessly to develop physician
  leaders who are skilled in providing caring, efficient, and
  high-quality health care; and
 
         WHEREAS, Dr. Teegarden has served on the Mayo Clinic
  Leadership Council for Alumni Philanthropy, as president of the
  Mayo Clinic Alumni Association, and on the executive advisory
  board of The University of Texas at Tyler College of Business and
  Technology; and
 
         WHEREAS, This outstanding physician has contributed
  significantly to enhancing the provision of high-quality health
  care to the people of East Texas; he is truly an inspiration to
  those who have had the pleasure of knowing him and working with
  him; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, hereby commend Dr. David K. Teegarden for his many
  years of service, leadership, and commitment to providing the
  best possible health care for Texas citizens and extend to him
  best wishes in all his future endeavors; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of the high regard of the Texas Senate.
