SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 538
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Richard V. Sanchez
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
  citizens of San Antonio in mourning the loss of Richard V.
  Sanchez, who died February 12, 2011, at the age of 96; and
         WHEREAS, Born December 22, 1914, Richard Sanchez was a
  lifelong resident of San Antonio; he graduated in 1933 as a
  member of the first senior class of Thomas Jefferson High School;
  he served his country during World War II and was a highly
  patriotic American; and
         WHEREAS, Richard had a talent for the graphic arts, and he
  served as a commercial artist for the Staffels Company; he was also
  a political aspirant and was famous for his eloquent and witty
  letters to the editors of various San Antonio newspapers; and
         WHEREAS, A self-proclaimed "born Republican," he was the
  first officially registered Mexican-American Republican in Bexar
  County; he served as a precinct chairman for many years and was
  chairman of the Republican Mexican-American Advisory Committee
  during the Nixon administration; he was proud of helping to
  broker the appearance by United States Senator John Tower before
  the League of United Latin American Citizens in 1965; and
         WHEREAS, Richard was respected in the community for his
  eloquent voice and for his many accomplishments; he led a colorful
  life, was dedicated to his family, and was an avid fisherman; he was
  preceded in death by his beloved wife, Berta; and
         WHEREAS, Noted for his warmth, enthusiasm, and sense of
  humor, Richard Sanchez leaves behind memories that will be treasured
  forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of Richard V. Sanchez: his sons and daughter-in-law,
  Richard A. Sanchez and Robert Sanchez and Lona; his sister,
  Aurora Hernandez; his grandchildren, John, Richie, Robbie,
  Daniel, and Nathan; his nieces, Rachel Hernandez Jones and Dr.
  Maria Hernandez Ferrier; and his great-grandchildren, Mazie and
  Matthew; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy
  from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
  day, it do so in memory of Richard V. Sanchez.
