SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 551

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to join Italian American communities across the state and nation in commemorating the 150th anniversary of the unification of the Republic of Italy, which is being celebrated March 17, 2011; and

WHEREAS, Italy and America have long historical ties that span many years and Italian Americans have played a vital role in American life since the founding of the United States; and

WHEREAS, Italian immigrants and their descendants have enriched our nation with their contributions to the arts, sciences, architecture, cuisine, and many other fields; they persevered in the face of discrimination to grow and prosper in their new home and participate fully in the American dream; and

WHEREAS, Italian Americans have flourished in every sphere of American life, helping to strengthen our nation while continuing to preserve their proud Italian traditions; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the many contributions Italian Americans have made to the cultural and historical legacy of our state and nation and extend best wishes for a memorable 150th anniversary celebration of the founding of the Republic of Italy; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in honor of this special day.
