SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 553
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Barrett Martin Havran
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
  commemorates the life of Barrett Martin Havran, who died March
  14, 2011, at the age of 31; and
 
         WHEREAS, Barrett Havran was born June 6, 1979 in Fort
  Worth; he attended Fort Worth Country Day School from
  kindergarten through 12th grade, graduating in 1998; he excelled
  in academics, theater, football, and track, and was elected
  Homecoming King in 1997; and
 
         WHEREAS, He attended The University of Texas at Austin on a
  track and field scholarship, earning a bachelor's degree from the
  McCombs School of Business while becoming the ninth-ranked
  decathlete in school history and winning the Lan Hewlett Award,
  given to the athlete with the highest cumulative grade point
  average; and
 
         WHEREAS, Mr. Havran went on to receive a law degree from
  the Dedman School of Law at Southern Methodist University, where
  he was a member of the national championship White Collar Crime
  Mock Trial Team and was named top advocate of the competition; he
  was named the Southern Methodist University Outstanding Advocate
  and was elected to the Order of Barristers, Master Level; and
 
         WHEREAS, Following his graduation, he entered into the
  practice of law and became an active member of the Dallas legal
  community while working for the law firm of Sommerman and
  Quesada; he later fulfilled his lifelong dream of returning to
  Fort Worth, where he worked at Doss Knight and Associates and was
  the principal in his own law firm; and
 
         WHEREAS, Active in community affairs, he served on the
  board of Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Texas and was a member
  of the Downtown Fort Worth Rotary Club, Colonial Country Club,
  and numerous other organizations; and
 
         WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he
  gave generously to others, and his boundless energy and kind
  heart will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and
 
         WHEREAS, He was devoted to his family, and he leaves behind
  memories that will be treasured forever by his family and many
  friends; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family and friends of Barrett Martin Havran; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate,
  and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
  Barrett Martin Havran.
