SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 565
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize H-E-B on the occasion of its 80th year of outstanding
  service to the citizens of Corpus Christi; and
 
         WHEREAS, The grocery chain is sponsoring a yearlong
  celebration in honor of the opening of its first H-E-B store in
  Corpus Christi in 1931; and
 
         WHEREAS, The kickoff ceremony is at Driscoll Children's
  Hospital, where company officials will treat patients to an H-E-B
  birthday cake and presents; a few days afterward, a Customer
  Appreciation Day will be held at H-E-B stores; also planned is a
  two-week celebration of Texas businesses that have worked with
  the grocery chain over the years; and
 
         WHEREAS, The company opened its first store in 1905 in the
  ground floor of the Butts' family home in Kerrville; it has grown
  to include more than 300 stores throughout Texas and has nearly
  2,500 employees in Corpus Christi; and
 
         WHEREAS, H-E-B has provided countless Texans with a wide
  range of grocery choices over the years and has contributed
  immensely to the economy of this state; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, hereby commend H-E-B on its many years of service to
  the people of Texas and on its success in Corpus Christi over the
  last 80 years; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  H-E-B as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
