SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 567
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize the Pearland High School Oilers football team, which
  won the 2010 Class 5A Division I state championship title; and
 
         WHEREAS, The Oilers won their first state championship by
  defeating the nation's number-one-ranked team, Trinity High
  School from Euless, by a score of 28-24 in a game that saw the
  Oilers break up a last-minute pass inside the five-yard line to
  secure the victory; and
 
         WHEREAS, These young athletes have demonstrated great
  talent and perseverance over the course of the year, finishing
  the season with a perfect record of 16-0; team members can take
  great pride in their outstanding performance; and
 
         WHEREAS, Under the superior leadership and expertise of
  head coach Tony Heath, the Oilers have developed exceptional
  teamwork and discipline; and
 
         WHEREAS, Pearland High School and the City of Pearland are
  proud of the Oilers for their hard work, their impressive skills,
  and their fine sportsmanship; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, hereby commend the Pearland High School Oilers on
  their successful season and extend congratulations to them on
  winning the 2010 Class 5A Division I state championship title;
  and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the team as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
