SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 627
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize Dr. Louis Agnese on the occasion of the 25th anniversary |
|
|
of his inauguration as president of the University of the Incarnate |
|
|
Word; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Agnese was inaugurated on March 25, 1986; at the |
|
|
time, he was one of the youngest presidents of a four-year |
|
|
institution of higher education in the country, and today, he is |
|
|
the longest-serving president of a comprehensive, four-year |
|
|
university in Texas; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Under his exceptional leadership, the university |
|
|
has undergone remarkable growth and development in facilities, |
|
|
programs, and enrollment; the student body has more than |
|
|
quintupled, majors have increased from 56 to nearly 80, and |
|
|
doctoral programs were begun for the first time; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The university's budget has grown from $7.8 million |
|
|
to more than $160 million, and its endowment has increased from $3 |
|
|
million to more than $80 million; the Feik School of Pharmacy and |
|
|
the Rosenberg School of Optometry have opened, helping to fill the |
|
|
state's need for training in these vital disciplines; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Agnese has had a significant impact on higher |
|
|
education in this state, and he is truly deserving of recognition |
|
|
for his many achievements; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Louis Agnese on his 25 years of |
|
|
outstanding service to the University of the Incarnate Word and |
|
|
extend to him best wishes for continued success in all his future |
|
|
endeavors; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him |
|
|
as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
