SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 631
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  honor Marian Thomas, executive director of Communities In
  Schools of Galveston County; and
         WHEREAS, Communities In Schools is a program administered
  by the Texas Education Agency whose purpose is to surround
  students with a community of support to encourage them to stay in
  school and work to succeed in life; and
         WHEREAS, Marian Thomas began her service with this
  outstanding program at the ground level as a volunteer 18 years
  ago, and she has served as executive director for the last 13
  years; and
         WHEREAS, She is known for her visionary leadership and her
  exceptional talent for working within the community to develop
  partnerships and support for the program; she has motivated
  hundreds of students, parents, volunteers, and program staff
  members to do their utmost to improve the academic performance,
  attendance, behavior, and social skills of Galveston students; and
         WHEREAS, Marian Thomas lends her talents to numerous other
  organizations throughout the Galveston community as well; she is
  a member of the oldest black Methodist Church in the state and
  serves as steward and secretary for Reedy Chapel; she is a member
  of the Rotary Club and a graduate of Leadership Galveston, and
  she serves on the boards of directors of Child Protective
  Services and the Galveston College Foundation; and
         WHEREAS, Marian Thomas is an inspiration for others in the
  Communities In Schools mission, and she is widely recognized for
  her expertise and leadership in the Galveston community; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, hereby commend Marian Thomas for her commitment and
  leadership as executive director of Communities In Schools of
  Galveston County and her outstanding service to her community;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
