SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 636

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Leora Kemp, who is retiring after more than a decade of outstanding service as librarian at the University of North Texas at Dallas; and

WHEREAS, Leora Kemp first worked for the University of North Texas at the Willis Library while earning her master's degree in library science at the university in Denton; she worked at the Texas State Technical Institute Library in Waco and then with the Dallas Public Library for almost 12 years before assuming her post at the newly formed University of North Texas System Center at Dallas; and

WHEREAS, Talented and inventive, she instituted an aggressive program of library instruction that focuses on making students and faculty aware of the wide array of electronic resources available to them; and

WHEREAS, Throughout her career, she has been noted for her superior skill, her expertise, and her enthusiasm for outreach; she has continually shown a willingness to establish relationships with people to help them solve their library and reference needs on a personal level; and

WHEREAS, An exemplary educator and public servant, she is respected and admired by her colleagues, and her presence at the University of North Texas Dallas will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, hereby commend Leora Kemp on her exceptional service to the people of Texas as librarian at the University of North Texas at Dallas and extend to her best wishes for the retirement years ahead; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
